About Us

The  Young Stock where we inspire and educate our future farmers and growers

Our Story

The YoungStock is a children's educational brand dedicated to teaching children about food and farming. We achieve this through our engaging print magazine and our hands-on farm school experience.

We are passionate about educating children on food and farming. We do this by publishing our amazing magazine, attending events, and running our farm club.

Inside the magazine are facts and stories on farming and the countryside. There are regular features on arable, machinery and livestock, sustainability, careers and seasonal produce — with a fun recipe to try out. The magazine will be addressed to the reader and when it comes through the letter box, they will want to explore all the articles.

Our farm club offers practical activities, including planting, farm walks, cooking, animal antics plus lots of outdoor fun and plenty of reading and writing in our classroom.

All of this will develop their curiosity and fine tune their reading skills. They will start to formulate opinions and learn about new topics. Best of all, they will learn to love food, farming and reading!

Meet Emma

Founder & Director

Hi, I’m Emma!

The first thing you should know about me is that I didn’t come from a farming background, but I realised early on that working with animals and in farming was my path. At 13, I started working at a local farm park in North Devon, where my love for the countryside really began.

By 16, I was studying Animal Care, Agriculture and Countryside Management, and over the next four years I built the foundations for my career. Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of roles including herdsperson, lambing assistant, and freelance stockperson.

At 27, I began an Honours Degree in Agriculture and Rural Business Management to build on my practical experience and develop my business knowledge. After graduating, I became a work-based learning tutor, supporting students through their apprenticeships.

In 2016, I took on the role of youth coordinator for the Hereford Cattle Society, delivering national workshops, events and young handler competitions. My passion for inspiring the next generation led me to complete a Master’s Degree in Children’s Publishing, where the idea for a farming-focused children’s magazine was born.

Today, that vision has come to life with the support of my team. Combining my love of reading and farming felt like a natural step. I’m also proud to be an NFU Farmers for Schools Ambassador, sharing the story of agriculture with young people.

I live in Wiltshire with my husband Richard and our children. Together, we farm around 100 acres, breeding pedigree Herefords, Ruby Reds and Beef Shorthorns. In my spare time, I enjoy showing cattle, reading, and open water swimming in the summer.
